Guidance on Safely Reopening for Funerals - COVID-19 Status

Our staff at Parker Kohl Funeral Home is committed to caring for the health of the families we serve along with the entire community regarding the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. The guidelines for funeral homes and public gatherings are consistently changing and we will update our policies to reflect this status.

UPDATE November 10, 2020

Governor Walz issued Executive Order 20-96 which updates guidance for receptions, gatherings and other surrounding activities to be limited to 50 people beginning November 27, and 25 people beginning December 11.

This does NOT impact the actual funeral ceremony and visitation. The funeral service and visitation will continue to operate under the existing 50% limitation (indoor funerals at 50% of normal occupant capacity, with a maximum of 250 (250 max indoor and outdoor) with a preparedness plan developed in accordance with MDH).

July 22, 2020 - Current guidelines for Minnesota funeral homes (from Executive Order 20-62 and Executive Order 20-81) include:

“In indoor settings, occupancy must not exceed 50 percent of the normal occupant capacity as determined by the fire marshal, with a maximum of 250 people in a single self-contained space.”

Our capacity as determined by the fire marshal is 582 people, meaning we could handle the maximum of 250 people

In order to follow the guidelines and reduce exposure in our facility, we feel it is imperative to offer the following solutions:

  • Limit chapel seating to 90 people.
  • Live feed viewing in our community room/foyer for 60 people.
  • Live streaming of the service on our website for all others.

The importance of having a funeral to honor the deceased and giving loved ones an opportunity to celebrate that life and begin to grieve is unquestioned. Our goal is to safely offer this opportunity for the families we serve. In order to keep all attendees safe please help us by following these guidelines:

  • Social distancing is still required. Note that social distancing is not required as between members of the same household.
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance, use provided sanitizer, avoid handshaking and hugging.
  • If you are at all feeling sick, please don’t come. Watch the service on our webcast.
  • Limit your duration with the family allowing others to safely offer their condolences.
  • FACEMASKS ARE REQUIRED per mandate by Minnesota Governor Walz. 7/22/2020 (We will have limited supply available for those in need.)

Our sympathies to everyone faced with hardships due to this pandemic. Together we must unite to care for one another in order to lift each other through these difficult times. We promise to care for our facilities with consistent cleaning of all public areas.

For those families that have experienced a recent loss or desire to pre-plan a funeral, we will offer meeting options to best suit your comfort level.  Either in person, over the phone, or through a virtual meeting.  Please call us to discuss.
